How to Release Resistance and Manifest What You Want

Have you ever really wanted something to happen in your life, but you don’t have the evidence yet that it’s going to happen?
Maybe you don’t know when it’s going to happen.
Maybe you don’t know how.
Maybe you don’t have the resources yet to create it.
When we really want something but can’t see how to get there, we can easily become attached to the outcome. And that space between what we want and where we are now can create frustration, resistance and sometimes a lot of suffering.
There is a practice I use in my own life and with my coaching clients that helps me approach manifestation differently.
It starts with a simple question:
What do you actually want to feel?
Something I’ve understood over the years is that most of the things we want, we want because we believe that having them will make us feel a certain way.
For example:
I want to travel and go on holiday because I believe I will feel free.
I want to create more money because I want to feel free and safe.
I want that promotion because I want to feel proud and validated.
I want a relationship because I believe it will make me feel loved, connected or supported.
I want to buy something because I believe having it will make me feel more of something.
The external desire may be different, but underneath it there is usually an emotional experience we are looking for.
And this is where it gets interesting.
Why wanting something can create resistance
When we tell ourselves:
“I will feel free when I have enough money.”
Or:
“I will feel successful when I get that promotion.”
We can unconsciously make our desired emotional state dependent on something that hasn't happened yet.
And if we don't know how or when it's going to happen, the desire itself can start creating tension.
There is now a gap between how I feel today and how I believe I will finally be able to feel when I get what I want.
So instead of only asking:
How do I manifest what I want?
I like to ask another question.
How can I embody that feeling now?
First, identify something you really want.
Then ask yourself:
What do I believe having this will make me feel?
Maybe the answer is:
Free, Safe, Proud, Validated, Loved, Successful, At peace.
And then ask:
If this thing never happened, but I could already start feeling more of that feeling now, what would I do?
This question can completely change our perspective.
If what I really want from a holiday is freedom, maybe I can create a little adventure this weekend.
I could take a road trip, explore somewhere new or simply create more free space in my week.
If I want to buy something because I believe it will make me feel successful or abundant, is there another way I can experience some of that feeling now without needing to buy it?
If I want more money because I want to feel safe, what could help me create a little more safety in my life today?
You don't have to wait for the future to feel differently
When I practice this, I often realize that there are already ways available to me to experience more of what I thought I needed the future to give me.
And something shifts.
There is less resistance between me and what I want.
Sometimes I even realize:
I don't actually need this thing to happen in order to feel the way I want to feel.
That doesn't mean I stop wanting it.
I can still desire it.
I can still work towards it.
I can still take action and allow it to come into my life.
But I don't need to put my life on hold while I'm waiting for it.
Instead, I can start embodying the emotional state I am looking for now.
A manifestation journaling practice
Think about something you really want to create or manifest into your life right now and take a few minutes to write:
What do I want?
Why do I want it?
How do I believe I will feel when I have it?
Where can I already experience this feeling in my life?
What could I do this week to create a little more of this feeling?
And then notice what changes.
Maybe the desire is still there, but there is a little less pressure around it.
Maybe you discover other ways of meeting the need underneath it.
Or maybe you realize that what you were really searching for was never the thing itself.
It was the feeling you associated with it.
You don't necessarily need to wait for your external reality to change before you begin creating your internal experience.
And maybe, from that place, you can release some of the resistance and create more space for what you want to come into your life. 🌿
With care,
Laeti
